SANTOSH JOSHI

Hello ! Thank you for visiting my home page. The mysteries of the universe have always captivated me and is the reason I decided to pursue my carrier in Astronomy and Astrophysics. I graduated and earned PhD degree in Physics from Kumaun University in Nainital. I investigated the chemically peculiar stars using photometric and spectroscopic means for the asteroseismic studies.

I am currently working as a Scientist at the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

My areas of research interests are of wide range e.g. :

• Asteroseismology
• Studies of the Chemically Peculiar Stars
• High time and spectral resolution photometry, spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry
• Census of Variability in Star Clusters
• Binary and Active Stars
• Optical variability of Blazars
• Instrumentation initiatives (development of rapid photometric systems)

Since 2007, I am leading various National, bi-lateral, and multi-lateral projects, including:

• The Nainital-Cape Survey project, funded by NRF, Govt. of South Africa and DST, Govt. of India.
• The Belgo-Indian Network for Astronomy & Astrophysics (BINA-1 and BINA-2) project funded by the BELSPO, Govt. of Belgium and DST, Govt. of India.
• Search and Follow-up Studies of Time-domain Astronomical Sources using Sky Surveys, BRICS Telescopes and Artificial Intelligence (SAPTARISI) project, supported by the Govts. of India, China and Russia.
• The RFBR and ILTP projects supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Russia and the DST, Government of India.

I am passionate to mentor young researchers and impart my knowledge to them for the betterment of society. In an effort to foster a collaborative environment for learning and creativity, I have mentored a number of PhD and project students.
